The Postal Dept took the demand of medical facilities to GDS and their families with National Health Authority under the flagship scheme of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY)

The following is the features of the scheme.

Cashless healthcare services in any public sector hospitals and private network hospital empanelled under CGHS and PMJAY.

Covering wide range of surgical packages including the treatment for 50 types of cancer.

It covers pre hospitalisation and post hospitalisation expenses up to 15 days medicines, diagnostic procedures etc.

It is mandatory for all GDS. Contribution would be between Rs.250 to 300 per month deducted from the TRCA of the GDS. The contribution will be reviewed periodically to see its self-sustainability and contribution may be revised in future.

If no consent received from the unions before 22.5.2024, it will be presumed that there will be no objection and the Dept will proceed for launching the scheme at the earliest.

Now unions offer their suggestions for the improvement of the proposal.

AIGDSU sought relaxation about 15 days from discharge from hospital. Demanding introduction of a new scheme as CGHS (GDS).

The Dept referred Kamalesh Chandra Committee in which it is stated as CGHS not feasible. It is not desirable now to initiate consultation.

NUGDS demands 50% premium may be met by department which is rejected as not feasible.

BGDKS referred Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal etc and requesting to provide free and concession of premium as if extended by the State Govt.

The suggestion cannot be accepted since financially not viable. No proposal to introduce outdoor facilities. PMJAY scheme is uniform medical facilities to be provided to GDS.

Finally the unions are requested to review their stand and send specific consent for the proposal .

Since the major union not agreed to the proposal the department has no option but to drop the proposal as well as the demand of providing medical facilities to GDS
