What are the specific conditions and percentage limits for appointing meritorious sportspersons in relaxation of the normal recruitment procedure?
Ministries and Departments of the Government of India can recruit meritorious sportspersons in relaxation of the standard recruitment procedure, provided that these appointments, along with all other existing reservations, do not exceed 50% of the total vacancies proposed for direct recruitment. For this purpose, appointing authorities may use their discretion to withhold up to 5% of the vacancies normally notified to the Staff Selection Commission. These held-back vacancies can then be filled by appointing meritorious sportspersons, while strictly adhering to the overall 50% reservation cap.
