Rationalization of Mail Processing Hubs (MPOP)
• Based on operational and mail profile criteria, the Department of Posts has decided to downgrade 27 National Sorting Hubs (NSHs) to Intra Circle Hubs (ICHs) effective from February 3, 2026.
• The 27 downgraded NSHs include locations such as Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Karnal, Mysuru, Panaji, Gwalior, and Shillong, among others.
• Bulk mail booking centers (BNPL/BPC) with direct bagging facilities will continue to close Speed Post bags to these downgraded ICHs.
• Nine major NSHs (including Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kolkata) will maintain direct bagging exchanges with the downgraded hubs.
• Circles are requested to identify other NSHs that require direct bagging based on a threshold of at least 50 articles per day.
• After these changes, the network will consist of 50 remaining NSHs, including 1 CBPO and 2 CBPO for the Army Postal Service.
