What are the guidelines regarding the equivalence of two- or three-year technical diploma courses to a 10+2 (Higher Secondary) qualification for recruitment to the posts of Postal Assistant and Sorting Assistant?
The Department of Posts has clarified that diplomas of two or three years' duration can be treated as equivalent to a 10+2 degree for the purpose of recruitment to the cadres of Postal Assistant and Sorting Assistant, subject to specific regulatory conditions:
1. Open and Distance Learning Mode: Degrees, diplomas, or certificates (including technical education) awarded through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) by Central/State legislative Universities, Deemed Universities, or Institutions of National Importance are automatically recognized for Central Government employment, provided they carry explicit approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC).
2. State Board Technical Diplomas: Specific three-year technical diploma courses (such as those recognized by the Haryana State Board of Technical Education) are treated as equivalent to a 10+2 qualification for admission and recruitment purposes.
3. SSC CHSL Selection Application: Candidates recommended by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on the basis of the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examinations (such as the 2015 and 2016 tranches) who possess a two- or three-year technical diploma are declared eligible for regular appointment, provided the respective State or Central Government authorities have formally declared their specific diploma courses as equivalent to 10+2.
