Is there any age limit prescribed for appointment by promotion?
Unless there are specific, well-founded administrative grounds to do otherwise, the upper age limits prescribed for direct recruits are not insisted upon in the case of promotees.

When is a probation period prescribed, and what are the specific exclusions where probation is not required?
Probation is mandatory for direct recruitment, promotions from one Group to another (such as Group 'B' to Group 'A'), and for officers re-employed before reaching the age of superannuation. No probation is prescribed for promotions within the same group of posts (such as Group 'C' to Group 'C'), or for appointments made on a contract basis, tenure basis, absorption, or re-employment after superannuation.
