IT Modernization Projects:
• Modernize IT DOP 2 (2020-21): Next phase of IT modernization to strengthen reach and customer service, with PWC as consultant.
• Project Arrow (2008): ₹900 crore project to improve core operations and modernize the ambiance ("Look and Feel").
o Aimed to transform India Post into a vibrant and responsive organization.
o Received the "Prime Minister's award for Excellence in Public Administration" in 2008-09.
o India Post got a new logo in September 2008.
DARPAN:
• Full Form: Digital Advancement of Rural Post Office for A New India.
• Launched in 2017 with a ₹1400 Crore outlay.
• Provides low-power ICT devices to Branch Postmasters (BPMs).
• Aims to improve services in approximately 1.29 Lakhs Branch Post Offices (BOs).
• Formerly known as RICT (Rural Information and Communications Technology).
• Main Goal: Improve service quality, add value, achieve "financial inclusion" in rural areas, and increase revenue.
• Vision:
1. Increase rural reach for financial remittances, savings accounts, RPLI, and cash certificates.
2. Improve mail operations with automated booking and delivery, increase retail post business revenue.
3. Provide a platform for third-party applications in rural areas.
4. Facilitate disbursements for social security schemes (e.g., MGNREGS).
• As of 31.12.2019, 1,29,080 BOs migrated under DARPAN for financial inclusion.
Mail Network Optimization Project (MNOP):
• Developed an "online Track and Trace system" for Speed Post and Registered mail (www.indiapost.gov.in).
• Introduced online tracking for parcels.
DakPay:
• UPI App launched on 15-12-2020 by IPPB and DoP.
• Facilitates easy digital transactions and banking services.
• Allows users to create UPI ID/PIN and add multiple bank accounts.
• Features:
o Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for fast bank-to-bank transfers.
o Virtual Debit Card (VDC) powered by Rupay for shopping and payments.
o Domestic Money Transfer (DMT) for instant money transfer.
• Provides digital financial and assisted banking services through the postal network.
• Enables sending money, scanning QR codes, and making digital payments.
• Offers interoperable banking services with any bank.
• Allows ordering and availing postal financial services at doorsteps.
• IPPB launched a doorstep "Digital Life Certificate (DLC)" service for pensioners.
Nanyatha:
• Electronic monitoring software (Android GPS-based) for letter clearance from letterboxes.
• Nanyatha MIS: Uploads location, date/time, number of letters, and employee ID to a central server (https://appost.in/nanyatha) upon barcode scan.
• Public can check clearance information on the website by location.
• Postal administration has login access for MIS details (LB clearance, etc.).
• Features include lists of uncleared LBs, traffic, and Google Map-based identification.
• GPS coordinates and barcode scanning ensure accurate letterbox opening.
• Monitors time deviation of LB clearance.
Symantec Antivirus:
• Implemented to secure IT assets (desktops, laptops).
• Symantec Endpoint Protection provides client-server malware protection.
• Combines virus protection with advanced threat protection.
• Group Update Provider (GUP): Implemented in offices with >10 systems.
o Downloads AV updates centrally and distributes locally.
o GUP server is critical for updates and should be running 24x7.
o Systems check GUP, then DC Server, then Symantec Cloud for updates.
Active Directory (AD):
• Microsoft Active Directory implemented for central authentication and authorization.
• All desktops/laptops and servers should be on AD.
• All employees/users must have their own user ID.
• Manages users, computers, groups, and applications centrally.
Email Solution:
• Name-based email IDs for Group 'A', 'B' (Gazetted), and Inspector Posts (Employee ID mandatory).
• Designation-based functional email IDs for standard designations up to the regional level.
• Each DoP office/division will have one email.
• Mobile number required for password communication.
• Email quota: 100MB per employee.
• Use Microsoft Outlook.
• Password expires in 90 days.
• Inactive accounts (90 days) will be deactivated; data removed after 180 days if no reactivation request.
Tech Devices & Computer Parts:
• Lists basic computer parts (Monitor, CPU, GPU, RAM, Storage, UPS, Printer, Mouse).
• Lists various input devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, etc.).
• Lists various output devices (Monitor types, Printer types, Projector, Speakers, Headphone).
• Sound Card improves audio quality.
• Video Card displays images.
• GPS provides location, weather, and tracking.
• Plotter prints high-quality graphics in large formats.
• Speech synthesizer converts text to speech.
