Are postal officials entitled to draw House Rent Allowance (HRA) while staying in an Inspection Quarter at their headquarters?
No, officials are not entitled to HRA under specific conditions related to their stay in Inspection Quarters:
• Officers staying in Inspection Quarters at the headquarters of their posting are not entitled to draw HRA for the duration of their stay.
• If an official occupies an Inspection Quarter at their headquarters for a period exceeding 7 days, they are not entitled to claim HRA for the entire period of their stay.
• These orders, which apply the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) rules to the Department of Posts mutatis mutandis, took effect from 26.11.1985.
• The Department has directed that these instructions, decided in consultation with the Ministry of Finance, must be followed strictly to prevent the misuse of Inspection Quarters.
