One Day, One Minute, One Rule – 208
Payment of Personal Claims and Allowances

What are the specific timelines for submitting and processing personal claims such as Travelling Allowance (TA) and Children Education Allowance (CEA), and what mandatory actions must be taken if a payment is delayed?

According to the Ministry of Communications, Department of Posts, claims for TA on Tour, Transfer, or Training must be submitted within sixty days of completing the journey. For TA claims related to Retirement, the submission window is 180 days (six months) from the journey's completion. While no specific submission deadline is prescribed for the Combined Duty Allowance for GDS, all personal claims, including CEA and similar allowances, must be processed and disbursed within one month of receipt, provided funds are available. In instances where payment is delayed due to a lack of funds, the claimant must be formally informed of their claim's status. Furthermore, time-barred claims must be handled strictly according to the rules issued by the Nodal Ministry or Directorate to prevent irregularities. These instructions, issued to address repeated delays and vigilance concerns flagged by the CBI, are detailed in OM No. PP-17/2/2020-PAP dated 28.07.2025.
