Notice period requirement for an officer wishing to surrender their General Pool Residential Accommodation

What is the notice period requirement for an officer wishing to surrender their General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA), and what are the financial implications if the required notice is not provided?

According to the Ministry of Urban Development, Directorate of Estates Office Memorandum No. 12035/16/2005-Pol.II dated 19th June, 2015, an officer may surrender their accommodation by providing at least two days' notice before the date of vacation. The allotment is deemed cancelled on the eleventh day after the letter is received by the Directorate of Estates or the date specified in the letter, whichever is later. If the officer fails to give the due ten-day notice, they remain responsible for the payment of the licence fee for the full ten days or the number of days by which their notice falls short of the ten-day requirement. However, the memorandum specifies that no such notice is required in certain events, such as when an officer is allotted a higher type of accommodation, when a residence must be vacated for public purposes or demolition, or upon the retirement or death of the allottee.
