What are the rules regarding the reimbursement of fees paid to State Government Medical Officers (such as a Civil Surgeon or District Medical Officer) for the mandatory medical examination of candidates selected for appointment to Group 'C' posts?
The Department of Posts and Telegraphs clarified that according to foundational instructions, the standard fee historically prescribed for the medical examination of a candidate for appointment to a non-gazetted post was Rs. 8/-, which is fully reimbursable to the candidate after their formal appointment.
To address instances where various State Governments had independently instituted higher medical examination tariffs, the Directorate explicitly ruled that where a State Government has prescribed an official fee higher than the baseline Rs. 8/-, the entire higher fee amount actually paid to the Civil Surgeon or equivalent Medical Officer is to be reimbursed in full to the candidates following their first appointment into the service.
