What directive has been issued to the Tamil Nadu Circle regarding the absorption of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) and Casual Labourers into Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) vacancies following the legal opinion of the Additional Solicitor General of India?
The Department of Posts has instructed the Chief Postmaster General of the Tamil Nadu Circle to fully implement the orders pronounced by the Hon'ble High Court of Madras on 27th April, 2023, in WP No. 13611/2013 and associated batch cases. This decision was finalized after the Special Leave Petition (SLP) on the matter was dismissed, and the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India, along with the Department of Legal Affairs (DoLA), advised that there were no compelling grounds to challenge the verdict via a review petition before the Hon'ble Supreme Court.
The Directorate explicitly specified that the implementation of this order must be treated as specific to this particular case and shall not be used as a precedent in any other legal case. Furthermore, the Circle has been directed to log and update the case status accordingly on the LIMBS portal.
