What are the foreign posting opportunities available to Army Postal Service (APS) personnel, and what are the associated financial allowances and tenures for these assignments?
Army Postal Service (APS) personnel have opportunities to be selected for prestigious foreign assignments through a dedicated board of officers that evaluates candidates annually based on specific parameters. Every year, approximately 30 APS personnel (spanning the ranks of JCOs, WOs, Naik, and Sepoy) are dispatched to foreign postings.
The active foreign installations and their financial structures include:
• United Nations Peacekeeping Forces: APS operates a total of 5 Field Post Offices abroad under the UN Mission (1 in Lebanon, 2 in Congo, 1 in South Sudan, and 1 in Israel). Personnel deployed here receive an additional allowance of approximately $1,600 per month (approx. Rs. 1,31,808) for a standard tenure of 6 months (totaling an allowance of around Rs. 8.00 lakh).
• HQ IMTRAT (Indian Military Training Team), Bhutan: APS operates 4 Field Post Offices in Bhutan. Personnel selected for this deployment receive an additional allowance of Rs. 84,138 per month for a tenure of 2 years (totaling an allowance of around Rs. 20.19 lakh).
