One Day, One Minute, One Rule – 262
How does the Department handle compassionate appointment requests in cases of missing Government employees, and what conditions must be satisfied?
The scheme extends beyond cases of death or medical retirement to include families of missing employees, provided specific legal thresholds are met. Per DoP&T O.M. No. 14014/02/2012-Estt.(D) dated 30.05.2013, dependents of a missing government employee can be considered for compassionate appointment subject to the conditions prescribed in the earlier O.M. dated 09.10.1998. This process generally involves a mandatory waiting period and the lodging of a formal police report (FIR) to establish that the employee's whereabouts are unknown. The family must still prove their indigent condition, and the appointment is treated as a regular appointment against a regular vacancy, provided the case satisfies the core objective of relieving the family from immediate financial destitution.
