One Day, One Minute, One Rule – 261
What are the specific procedural safeguards and restrictions regarding the relaxation of age limits for compassionate appointees?
The administration maintains a strict distinction between the relaxation of upper and lower age limits to ensure legal compliance. According to DoP&T O.M. No. 14014/02/2012-Estt.(D) dated 30.05.2013, the authority competent to take the final decision on making a compassionate appointment is also the authority empowered to grant relaxation of the upper age limit whenever it is found necessary. However, the guidelines explicitly prohibit any relaxation of the lower age limit below 18 years of age. For the purpose of determining age eligibility, the department must use the 'date of application' as the crucial reference point. These age limits are fundamentally governed by the Recruitment Rules of the specific post to which the appointment is proposed.
