What are the post-appointment obligations regarding family maintenance, and what unique summary procedure exists for the termination of such services?

A compassionate appointment is predicated on the continued support of the deceased employee’s family. Under DoP&T O.M. No. 14014/02/2012-Estt.(D) dated 30.05.2013, every appointee must provide a written undertaking stating that they will properly maintain the family members who were dependent on the government servant. If it is subsequently proven at any time that the appointee is neglecting or failing to maintain these family members, their appointment may be terminated forthwith. The administration is not required to follow the exhaustive procedures prescribed in the standard Disciplinary Rules or Temporary Service Rules for this specific purpose. Instead, they may terminate the services by issuing a simple show-cause notice asking the appointee to explain why their services should not be ended for non-compliance with the conditions stated in their offer of appointment.
