What is the procedure for the de-earmarking of quarters intended for officers?
Under the provisions of order No. BDG-205/1/2022-Building-DOP dated 30.09.2022, the competent authority has decided that a Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) can notify the de-earmarking of an earmarked quarter if it is found to be in an uninhabitable condition or does not meet the entitled category of the officer. This de-earmarking must be done under intimation to the Directorate and its period must be co-terminus with the tenure of the officer for whom it is de-earmarked. During this period, the quarter may be allotted to other suitable officers to prevent it from remaining vacant, but the earmarked status is automatically restored upon the original officer’s retirement, transfer, resignation, or death. Once restored, the CPMG must ensure the quarter is vacated within two weeks to be made available for the next entitled officer.
