Consequences for government servants who fail to follow the prescribed guidelines for the retention of quarters

What are the consequences for government servants who fail to follow the prescribed guidelines for the retention of quarters after transfer, retirement, or death?

According to the Department of Posts Order No. 4-16/88-Bldg dated 13.09.1988 (reiterated via No. 4-33/92-Bldg dated 31st August 1992), it has been observed that instructions regarding the retention of government accommodation are often not followed scrupulously by employees or their families. The order emphasizes that applications for retention must be submitted in a timely manner, and any delay in forwarding such applications to the Directorate must be fully explained with specific recommendations from the Chief PMG/PMG.
Strict adherence to the rules is required to avoid unauthorized occupation, which occurs when an official or their family continues to stay in the quarter beyond the permissible period without formal approval. To prevent administrative complications, the Directorate directs that all cases must be handled strictly according to the rules, and recommendations for extension must be made well before the expiry of the currently authorized retention period.
