Standardized retention periods and applicable license fees for staff quarters in the event of an employee's transfer, retirement, or death
What are the standardized retention periods and applicable license fees for staff quarters in the event of an employee's transfer, retirement, or death?
According to the Department of Posts (Estates Division) Letter No. BDG-20/1/2023-Building-DOP dated 04.05.2023, the retention of staff quarters—including earmarked and post-attached quarters—has been standardized across all Circles as follows:
• On Transfer: An official can retain the quarter for a normal period of 2 months at the normal license fee, with an additional extension of 6 months allowed at double the license fee.
• On Retirement: The normal retention period is 6 months at the normal license fee, followed by an additional 6 months at double the license fee on grounds such as medical exigencies or children's education.
• On Death while in Service: The family is permitted a normal retention period of 12 months at the normal license fee. An additional 12 months can be granted at the normal rate provided the spouse does not own a house at that station. Further extensions up to 2 years may be granted by the Head of Circle at double the license fee under specific conditions.
