Extent of reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) in the allotment of government accommodation
What is the extent of reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) in the allotment of government accommodation, and which types of quarters are covered under this provision?
According to the Ministry of Communications, Department of Posts (Estates Division) letter No. BDG-27/53/2025-Building-DOP dated 29.10.2025, which forwards the Directorate of Estates Office Memorandum No. 12035/9/2025/Pol.II dated 13.10.2025, there is a reservation of 4% for Persons with Disabilities in the allotment of General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA). This reservation is calculated based on the vacancies available in a year and is applicable for each type of accommodation up to Type V only (including Hostel). The guidelines mandate that necessary changes be implemented on the eSampada website to facilitate this reservation in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016.
