International Business Center (IBC):
o A post office or sorting office that provides facilities for booking, processing, assistance in customs documentation, and pickup for bulk customers of international mail.
o Similar to the activities of a Business Post Center (BPC).
o May also make direct dispatches to respective Sub Foreign Post Offices/Foreign Post Offices.
o Can provide nodal delivery of inward mail if volumes justify and there is a clear delivery advantage.

• Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras (DNK):
o Booking of International Mail to promote exports.
o Guidance in generating IEC for customers and automated PBE.
o Pick up facility for bulk customers.
o Provision of packing material for customers.
o Deployment of well-trained staff in customs and postal security-related rules and procedures.
o Marketing and facilitation in export processes.
Gist of Major Activities of Various Types of Offices Handling International Mail
• Office of Exchange (OE):
o Makes up and exchanges international mails with Offices of Exchange of foreign countries after customs clearance.
o Can be an inward OE, outward OE, or both.
o Maintains accounts relating to international mail exchange with foreign countries.
o Handles inquiries and indemnity cases.
• OE of Transit:
o Receives and dispatches only closed mail bags addressed to or received from OEs in India and OEs in foreign countries.
o Handles foreign origin bags received in Closed Transit and forwards them to destination countries.
o Exchanges mail bags with carriers or officials of foreign administration.
• FPO:
o An OE where Customs examination and clearance of imported/export goods are carried out.
o Customs Duty assessment is carried out only for articles delivered under that FPO's jurisdiction.
o Articles to be delivered under the jurisdiction of another FPO are diverted for examination and duty.
o Maintains accounts related to customs duty.
• SFPO:
o Receives and dispatches international mail to and from mapped offices within the country (inbound or outbound or both).
o No exchange of mail with other countries.
o Customs examination of inbound/outbound international mail as assigned to the office.
o Assessment and accounting of customs duty.
• IBC/DNK:
o Booking of International Mail to promote exports.
o Guidance in generating IEC for customers and automated PBE.
o Pick up facility for bulk customers.
o Provision of packing material for customers.
o Deployment of well-trained staff in customs and postal security-related rules and procedures.
o Marketing and facilitation in export processes.
o Nodal delivery of inward mail if volumes justify and there is clear delivery advantage.
o Direct exchanges of Bags with SFPO/FPO, if volumes justify.
