Clarification on Conveyance Allowance Rates
116. Following the implementation of the VIIth Pay Commission recommendations, what are the revised monthly conveyance allowance rates for Government servants using their own motor car or other modes of conveyance for official duties, and what specific conditions govern these payments?
According to GIO w.e.f. 01-07-2017, the monthly conveyance allowance is categorized by the average distance travelled on official duty. For those using their own motor car, the rates range from Rs. 1,680 (for 201–300 km) to Rs. 4,500 (for over 800 km). For journeys by other modes of conveyance, the rates range from Rs. 556 to Rs. 1,276 for the same distance brackets. These rates are subject to an automatic increase of 25% whenever the Dearness Allowance (DA) reaches 50%. Key conditions for admissibility include that the allowance is not payable during periods of joining time, leave, or temporary transfer, nor for any period exceeding 15 days where the officer does not use their car. Additionally, officers receiving this allowance are restricted from claiming Daily Allowance (DA) or Mileage Allowance for journeys within a 16 km radius.
