Make up of Articles Letter Post items should be securely made up with packing adapted to the shape, nature, and transport conditions. Envelopes should use edges with colored bars.\

Articles of Glass or Fragile Materials: Must be packed in metal, wood, or strong plastic boxes filled with protective materials to prevent friction.

Liquid & Easily Liquefying Substances: Should be placed in a special metal, wood, or strong plastic box with liquid-absorbing materials (e.g., sawdust, cotton, wool), and the lid must be fixed.

Fatty Substances (ointments, soft-soaps, resins, silkworm eggs): Must be enclosed in a first packing (box, cloth, plastic) and then placed in a stout wood or metal box to prevent leaking.

Dry Colouring Powders: Admitted only in perfectly leak-proof metal boxes, placed in a wood, plastic, or cardboard box with appropriate absorbent and protective materials between the two containers.

Live Bees, Leeches, and Parasites: Must be enclosed in boxes to avoid danger.

Urgent Medicines: Should be marked on the addressee’s address side with a specific symbol (light green background, black symbol and lettering, dimensions 62 x 44 mm).

Making up of Reduced Rate Articles Articles other than letters or postcards should be packed to protect contents while allowing for quick and easy verification. They can be in a wrapper, on a roller, between cardboard, in bags, boxes, envelopes, or containers (closed but easily opened and reclosed), or tied with easily untied string. Merchandise with transparent packing allowing content checks is allowed in hermetically sealed packing, as are industrial and vegetable products.

Articles in Panel Envelopes Articles can be posted in envelopes with a transparent address panel, which must be on the plain side and made of material allowing easy address readability. The panel must be rectangular, with its greatest dimension parallel to the envelope's length, and only the addressee's address should be visible through it. Envelopes with more than one panel, open panels, or wholly transparent envelopes are not admitted in foreign post.

Method of Addressing The address should include, in order: Name of the addressee, house number and name (if any), flat/apartment/floor/block number (if any), street/road/locality name, Post Office of delivery, delivery zone/postal code number (if any), province/State/Department name, and country name. All particulars must be in Roman Letters with Arabic numerals for foreign post. Indications like "Letter," "Printed Paper," or "Small Packet" should be on the top of the address side.

Registered items addressed to Post Box Numbers In many countries, including India, Registered Letters addressed to Post Box Numbers are not delivered. The Indian Post Office will accept such articles to a foreign country but will not be responsible for their delivery or non-delivery and return.
