- The book packets containing printed books should not contain any publication published at regular intervals. (128)
- Blind literature pockets are exempted from payment of the following fees besides being exempt from the payments of postage, registration fees, fee for acknowledgement and fee for the attested copy of the receipt. (136 &137)
- Nothing should be enclosed in or with any newspaper posted other than an extra or supplement under registered newspapers.
- The application of Registered Newspapers should be accompanied by i. a list showing the names and addressee of at least 50 bona fide subscribers and ; ii. a certificate from the District, Presidency or Sub divisional Magistrate.
- The articles containing gold coin or bullion or both, currency notes. Bank notes should be insured for the actual value of the contents, if it is posted in the post office. (184)
- Indian postal order may be repaid to the purchaser even after 24 months (but not later than 36 month) on payment of second commission at the prescribed rate.
- If the Foreign article are addressed ' Post Restante” the warehousing charge is levied from the 8th day following the date arrival of the article in the office of delivery. (18 Part II)
- A foreign parcel may be insured for a value not exceeding the limit of insurance for the country concerned and not exceeding the actual value of contents. The insurance value should not exceed the value declared in the customs declaration or other export documents.(18 Part II)
- In no case, foreign insured letter can be insured for more than Rs. 1,00,000 which is the limit prescribed in India. Where currency notes are despatched by insured post, the value shall not exceed Rs. 20,000 /-
- Refund for the error on franking impression can be claimed by the institution within one month and 5 % of less deduction. ( Error postage)
- Franking meter reset will be made by the PRI & above status.
- Fee for availing post box facility is Rs. 150 /- per year and Rs. 50 /- per quarterly.
- Fee for both post Box and post bag combined facility – Rs. 250 /- per year / Rs.80 quarterly.
- Cost of identify card is Rs. 9/-. Validity of ID card is 3 years.
- Cost of window delivery ticket – free of cost.
- Post Restante article can be detained in post office for one month. ( Post Restante instruction is valid for 3 months)
- Redirection fee of parcels within delivery area / original address and sender in case of unclaimed parcel is at free of cast.
- Complaint and Suggestion books are being maintained in all post offices including B.O.S
- Size of the Identity card is 88 mm x 63 mm
- Circle complaint officer is vigilance officer attached at the HQ of the circle.
- Delivery of articles of a deceased person may be effected to any near relative of the deceased if it does not contain any valuable property, and also in case of no counterclaim or likelihood of dispute.

- The weight limit of Book packet is 5 kg.
- The weight limit of book packet containing periodicals is 5 kg
- The weight limit of book pattern and sample packet is 2 kg.
- The weight limit of Blind literature packet is 7 kg.
- Security fee for availing registered newspaper facility under WPP is at least one month Postage.
- Late fee for renewal of regd news paper is Rs. 50/-. Renewal charge of registered news paper is free of cost.
- Unregistered parcel can be sent up to 4 kg.
- Parcel can be booked at S.O.s up to 20 kg.
- Parcel can be booked at Bos up to 10 Kg.
- Maximum size limit of the parcel is. Length 1 mtr. and length and width is 1.80 mtr.
- Registration is compulsory in cases of any parcel exceeding 4 kgs, any insured and any VP article.
- First class mails and money orders can be transmitted by air without any additional charge.
- Insurance is compulsory when the article contains coin, currency and Jewellery.
- Demurrage charges for V P letter on parcel is Rs. 2 & Rs. 3 respectively,
- Demurrage charge on V.P. article is collected from the addressee after 7 days.
- Alteration of payee name of money order can be done by paying second commission as fees.
- Money order neither paid to payee nor remitter is called as void money order.
- Money order becomes void after the last date of the following month.
- Currency period of Indian postal order is two years.
- The currency period of an IPO can be extended to 3 years from 2 years on payment of 2nd commission.
- Handling charges of envelope for business reply card in addition to postage per article is Re 1/-
- Bulk bags should be closed so as to enable the post office to inspect the contents .Each bag should weigh not less than 5 kg and not more than 30 kg. (Content & bag)
- Window delivery Ticket is the identification of franking machine licensee's representative.
- Any postal article can be redirected by the office of designation only.
- Registered newspapers are accepted without payment of late fee on all days including Sundays and post office holidays at Night post office.
- Articles addressed to the deceased persons can be delivered at the discretion of the PM.

- Only fully prepaid unregistered articles can be delivered through post box/ bag. Unpaid articles addressed to the person / firm having Post Box should be delivered through the delivery staff.

- For breach of condition, book pocket containing periodicals will be treated as letter / parcel whichever is less and difference in postage charged.
- If any communication is on the address side or if the post card is cut/ altered/ folded or any attachment, the post card will be treated as violating the conditions for posting and will be treated as letter.
- If a book packet infringe the condition of size and weight, it will be returned to the sender after cancelling the stamps.
- Persons changing their address should furnish written instructions regarding the disposal of postal articles received to their address to the post offices both at the place where they are leaving and where they are settling.
- Complaints relating to VP article should be tendered only at the PO where the VP article was posted.
- A Postal article reposted after having been opened or reposted is treated as an article posted for the first time and due charges will be collected accordingly.
- Time limit for complaints relating to compensation of insured articles is three month from the date of posting.
- Void MO can be paid to the remitter or payee if application is made before the expiry of 12 months from the issue of original M.O.
- IPOS are sold and paid directly only at HO & SO. The BOs are not authorised for sale of IPOS.
- The MO can be stopped before payment and demanded for repaying to remitter for which these is no fee /cost.
- Service for sending parcels in large consignment throughout the nation and international is called as logistic post.
- The Speed Post bar code would contain 13 characters.
- Undelivered acknowledgement cards are to be destroyed after four months.

- The Indian Post office is exempted by law from all responsibility in case of loss, mis-delivery or delay of registered article in course of transmission by post.
- The rate of inland postage may be fixed by the Central Govt by notification in official Gazette.
- Differences between undeliverable articles & undelivered articles. I. Undeliverable article\ i. Illegible or incomplete address ii. Wrappers get detacheiii. - 2Complaints should be preferred within the time limits.i. M.O. V.P. – 12 months from the date of issue. ii. Insured article – 3 months from the date of posting. iii. Inland post – 6 months from the date of incident. iv. Postal orders – 12 months from the last of the month of issue. v. Speed Post – 1 month (77 & 81)
- For regd newspapers, the postage bill will be presented to the licensee on 16th & 1st of every month. Payment should be made within 7 days. In the event of non payment of bill within a fortnight, the posting of the paper without prepayment of postage will be stopped and the licence is deemed to be cancelled. (144)
