One Day, One Minute, One Rule – 351
What are the revised limits for retaining fees received by Central Government employees for occasional work performed outside office hours, and what are the exceptions where these limits do not apply?
A Government servant can retain the full fee received for occasional and casual work performed outside office hours up to a limit of Rs. 1,500 in a financial year. For non-recurring fees, this limit of Rs. 1,500 applies to each individual case, while for recurring fees, it applies to the total sum collected throughout the financial year.
However, these rules and limits do not apply to certain types of income, meaning the standard requirement to credit one-third of the amount to general revenues still holds if the income is derived from:
• Institutions registered under the Societies Registration Act that are free from government administrative control.
• Publishing a book or contributing an article on subjects that are not literary, cultural, technological, or scientific.
• Permitted regular part-time employment under Conduct Rule 15.
• The exploitation of a patent taken out without the explicit permission of the competent authority.
