• ஆசாரக்கோவை. திருக்குறள் போல பதினெண்கீழ்க்கணக்கு நூல்களுள் இதுவும் ஒன்று.

பாடல் 70 : செய்யத் தகாதவை
உமிவும், உயர்ந்துழி ஏறலும், பாக்கும்,
வகை இல் உரையும், வளர்ச்சியும் ஐந்தும்
புணரார் பெரியாரகத்து.

புணரார் பெரியாரகத்து.
பெரியோர்கள் (அறிவில், வயதில், அல்லது நிலையில் உயர்ந்தவர்கள்) இருக்கும் இடத்தில், அவர்களுக்கு மரியாதை செய்யும் விதமாகத் தவிர்க்க வேண்டிய ஐந்து செயல்களைப் பட்டியலிடுகிறது. இது பணிவு மற்றும் கண்ணியத்தின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை வலியுறுத்துகிறது.
1. உமிவும்: (வாய் நிறைய வைத்துக்கொண்டு எச்சில் அல்லது பிற பொருட்களை) உமிழ்தல். இது அசுத்தமானதாகவும், அநாகரீகமானதாகவும் கருதப்படும் செயல்.
2. உயர்ந்துழி ஏறலும்: பெரியவர்கள் அமர்ந்திருக்கும் இடத்திற்கோ அல்லது நிற்கும் இடத்திற்கோ மேலாக (உயரமான இடத்தில்) ஏறி அமர்வது அல்லது நிற்பது. இது பெரியோர்களை மதிக்காமல், அவர்களைவிடத் தன்னை உயர்ந்தவனாகக் கருதும் செயல்.
3. பாக்கும்: வெற்றிலைப் பாக்குப் போடுவது. இது ஒரு சாதாரணமாகச் செய்யும் செயலாக இருந்தாலும், பெரியோர் முன்னிலையில் நாகரீகமற்றதாகக் கருதப்படும்.
4. வகை இல் உரையும்: வகையற்ற உரை, அதாவது பொருத்தமில்லாத, அர்த்தமற்ற, அல்லது அநாகரீகமான பேச்சு.
5. வளர்ச்சியும்: (தன் பெருமையை அல்லது புகழை) தானே மிகைப்படுத்திப் பேசுவது, அல்லது தான் வளர்ந்திருப்பதைப் பற்றிப் பறைசாற்றுவது. இது அகந்தையைக் குறிக்கும்.
இவை ஐந்தும் புணரார் பெரியாரகத்து: இந்த ஐந்து செயல்களையும் பெரியோர்கள் இருக்கும் இடத்தில் ஒருபோதும் செய்ய மாட்டார்கள் (புணரார்). அதாவது, பெரியோர்கள் முன்னிலையில் இந்த ஐந்து செயல்களையும் தவிர்ப்பது நற்பண்பாகும்.
அறிவுடையோரும், நல்லொழுக்கம் உடையோரும், பெரியவர்கள் இருக்கும்போது எச்சில் உமிழ மாட்டார்கள், அவர்களைவிட உயர்ந்த இடத்தில் அமரவோ நிற்கவோ மாட்டார்கள், வெற்றிலைப் பாக்கு போட மாட்டார்கள், பொருத்தமற்ற அல்லது அநாகரீகமான பேச்சுகளைப் பேச மாட்டார்கள், மேலும் தன் பெருமையை தானே மிகைப்படுத்திப் பேச மாட்டார்கள். இது பெரியோர்களுக்குச் செலுத்த வேண்டிய ஆழ்ந்த மரியாதை மற்றும் பணிவின் வெளிப்பாடு ஆகும்.
