246. Daily Rules Recap - Medical claims for the Pensioners
• The Central Services (Medical Attendance) Rules, 1944, cover only serving employees and not pensioners.
• Pensioners have the option to avail Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) in lieu of Outpatient Department (OPD) facilities under CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme).
• They can also remit a subscription and become a CGHS beneficiary at a nearby CGHS wellness center.
• Pensioners have the option to avail FMA for outdoor treatment and CGHS for Inpatient Department (IPD) treatment, provided they pay the CGHS subscription.
• If residing in a CGHS-covered area, pensioners have no option but to join CGHS.
• In the event of not joining CGHS, FMA will not be provided to them
