• If an article received for delivery is enclosed in a cover marked 'doubtful, the postmaster should send a notice in writing to the addressee inviting him to attend either in person or by agent within 48 hours at the Post Office. And open and examine the article in the presence of the addressee or his agent or in his absence if he fails to attend within the time specified, reporting the matter to the Head of the Circle or Region as the case may be. (R-122)
• If a parcel is received in a leaky condition in the post office, a report in the first instance should be made to the Superintendent of Post Offices or First Class Postmaster, as the case may be, for orders regarding the disposal of the article. [Note Rule 122 (a)-Vol V]
• When a labelled bundle contains no mis-sent articles, the check-slip received with it should forth with be destroyed. (R-141)
• An immediate report should be made by telegraph by the officer concerned to the Despatching Office/Record Office in the following cases: (i) A due bag not received or left behind. (ii) Bags lost, stolen or destroyed by fire. (R-144)
• The purpose of reporting the important irregularities by telegram is to enable inquiry to be conducted immediately and responsibility fixed for the irregularity. (R-144)
• A fee of Rs. 6 for each inland article should be taken from the applicant and converted into postage stamps which should then be affixed to the application seeking alteration/ correction of address in the course of transmission and obliterated with the date stamp of the office. The application should be sent to the Superintendent concerned for orders. On receipt of the sanction from the Superintendent, the address should be altered/corrected. (Rule 148)
