Business Hours (Regulation 3) Post Offices are prescribed to have six hours of business for transacting with the public. For references and inquiries, offices will remain open for their entire working hours. Branch Post Offices can be open for a maximum of five hours daily. The Circle, Regional, or Divisional Head has the authority to specify business hours for each Post Office under their jurisdiction. A Regional Head can also authorize additional hours for high-demand services or set specific hours/transaction limits.

Organizational Setup The Department of Posts operates under the Ministry of Communications. As of the provided information, the Minister of Communication is Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, and the Minister of State of Communication is Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani.

The Department of Posts is headed by the Secretary, Department of Posts, Government of India, who is also the Director General Postal Services and is responsible for departmental operations.

The Postal Service Board (PSB) is the apex management body responsible for planning and policy formulation within the Department. The Secretary, Department of Posts, serves as the Chairman, and the Deputy DG assists the board as Secretary.

The PSB includes seven members: Member (Personnel Management), Member (Operations), Member (Technology), Member (Financial Services), Member (Infrastructure), Member (Human Resource and Development), and Member (Service Quality and Marketing). Additionally, the DG (Posts), Additional DG (Coordination), and AS & Financial Advisor (from the Government of India), who heads the Internal Finance Wing (IFW), are permanent invitees to the PSB. Chief General Managers of BD, Parcel & PLI Directorate, Deputy DGs, Directors, and Assistant DGs at the Headquarters provide support to the board.

Postal Circles and Their Jurisdictions For administrative purposes, India is divided into 23 Postal Circles, each with its administrative jurisdiction and headquarters:
