Proposal for additional quantum of Pension after completion of 65,70 & 75 years of age
• The Parliament Standing Committee recommended additional pension amounts of 5%, 10%, and 15% for pensioners aged 65, 70, and 75, respectively, along with 28 other positive recommendations.
• After a ten-month delay, an action taken report was tabled in the Rajya Sabha (Report No. 120) on 8.12.2022.
• Data was collected across departments (Railways, Postal, Defence, etc.) to assess the financial impact of the increased pension.
• A proposal was sent to the Department of Expenditure (DOE), which questioned how the additional financial burden would be met.
• The DOE noted the already large and increasing liabilities of the Old Pension Scheme (Rs. 2.7 lakh crores in BE 2022-2023) and deemed further increases undesirable due to the pressure on government finances.
• They also expressed concern about the cascading effect on state finances and similar demands from retired state government employees.
• The DOE rejected the proposal.
• The Parliament Committee acknowledged the reply and decided not to pursue the matter further.

• அதிகரித்த ஓய்வூதியத்தின் நிதி தாக்கத்தை மதிப்பிடுவதற்காக அனைத்து துறைகளிலும் (ரயில்வே, தபால், பாதுகாப்பு போன்றவை) ஓய்வூதியதாரர்களின் வயதுக் குழுவைப் பற்றிய தரவு சேகரிக்கப்பட்டது. கூடுதல் நிதிச்சுமை எவ்வாறு பூர்த்தி செய்யப்படும் என்று DOPPw குறிப்பிடவில்லை என்று கூறி, செலவினத் துறைக்கு (DOE) ஒரு முன்மொழிவு அனுப்பப்பட்டது.
• பழைய ஓய்வூதியத் திட்டத்தின் பொறுப்புகள் ஏற்கனவே பெரியதாகவும் (BE 2022-2023 இல் 2.7 லட்சம் கோடிகள்) ஆண்டுதோறும் அதிகரித்து வருவதாகவும், மேலும் அதிகரிப்புகள் விரும்பத்தகாதவை என்றும், அரசாங்க நிதிகளில் அழுத்தத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும் என்றும் DOE குறிப்பிட்டது.
• இது மாநில நிதிகளில் ஒரு சங்கிலி விளைவைக் கொண்டிருக்கும் என்றும், ஓய்வு பெற்ற மாநில அரசு ஊழியர்களிடமிருந்து இதேபோன்ற கோரிக்கை எழும் என்றும் அவர்கள் கவலை தெரிவித்தனர்.
• DOE முன்மொழிவை ஏற்கவில்லை மற்றும் நிராகரித்தது. பாராளுமன்றக் குழு பதிலைப் பெற்று, இந்த விஷயத்தை மேலும் தொடர விரும்பவில்லை.
