• திரிகடுகம் என்பது மூன்று மருந்துப் பொருட்களைக் குறிக்கும். 
• சுக்கு, மிளகு, திப்பிலி என்னும் மூலிகைகள் உடலுக்கு நன்மை செய்வது போல் இந்நூலில் ஒவ்வொரு பாட்டிலும் உள்ள மூன்று கருத்துக்கள் வாழ்விற்கு நன்மை செய்யும். ஆதலால் இந்நூல் திரிகடுகம் என்றுஅழைக்கப் படுகிறது

மூன்று கடன் கழித்த பார்ப்பானும், ஓர்ந்து
முறை நிலை கோடா அரசும், சிறைநின்று
அலவலை அல்லாக் குடியும், - இம் மூவர்
உலகம் எனப்படுவார். . . . .[34]

"உலகம் எனப்படுவார்" அதாவது உலகத்தை நிலைநிறுத்துபவர்கள் என கருதப்படும் மூன்று பிரிவினர்:

"மூன்று கடன் கழித்த பார்ப்பானும்" - மூன்று கடமைகளை நிறைவேற்றும் அந்தணர் 
இங்கு மூன்று கடமைகள்: கல்வி கற்றல், கற்பித்தல், வேள்வி செய்தல்

"ஓர்ந்து முறை நிலை கோடா அரசும்" - நன்கு ஆராய்ந்து நீதி நெறி தவறாத அரசன் 
நடுநிலையோடு ஆட்சி செய்யும் அரசன்

"சிறை நின்று அலவலை அல்லாக் குடியும்" - வரம்பு கடந்து செல்லாத குடிமக்கள் 
ஒழுக்க நெறியில் வாழும் மக்கள்

ஒரு சமுதாயத்தின் முக்கிய தூண்களை விளக்குகிறது:
• அறிவும் ஒழுக்கமும் கொண்ட கல்விமான்கள்
• நீதி நெறி தவறாத ஆட்சியாளர்கள்
• நெறி தவறாத குடிமக்கள்

இந்த மூன்று பிரிவினரும் தத்தம் கடமைகளை சரியாக செய்யும்போதுதான் ஒரு சமுதாயம் சிறப்பாக இயங்க முடியும் என்பதே இதன் சாரம்..

மூவர்க்குக் கடன் செய்த பார்ப்பானும், நீதி நிலையில் வழுவாத அரசனும், கவலையில்லாக் குடியும் உயர்ந்தோர் எனப்படுவர்.

"He who discharges the three-fold duties, the king who swerves not from the path of justice, and the people who transgress not the bounds of virtue—these three constitute the world."

• "The people who transgress not the bounds of virtue": This highlights the importance of citizens adhering to moral principles and living a virtuous life. When people are ethical and law-abiding, it contributes to a peaceful and orderly society.
