101. What is the minimum contribution towards GPF subscription? Whether the amount can be altered by the DDOs?
As per Rule 8 (b), the subscription towards GPF should not be less than 6% of emoluments and not more than total emoluments. The DDOs are having no right to alter the subscription fixed by the Government servant. The subscription may be increased twice and reduced once at any time during the year.
102. Who are the persons the employee can nominate for G.P.F payment in the event of his death? Whether it is compulsory to nominate the spouse?
When the Government is having a family, the nomination should be only in favour of family members. According to GPF (CS) Rules, any member of the family can be nominated. The subscriber is at liberty even to exclude his wife in the nomination. The family includes spouse, parents, children, minor brothers, unmarried sisters, deceased son's, widow, and children etc. If the nomination is made in favour of more than one person, the proportionate share in which the amount will be payable should be specified clearly in the relevant column. At any time, the nomination may be cancelled by the Government servant. Similarly, the Government servant can nominate anyone for Group Insurance Scheme also.
103. What are the reasons for which GPF advance can be availed?
One can take GPF Advance for the reasons of higher education of self, children, legal expenditure, religious vow, obligatory expenses towards betrothal, marriage and other like ceremonies, for purchase of consumer durables such as TV, VCR, washing machines, computers etc.
