Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS)

1. What is the primary objective of the Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS)?
The primary objective of the Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS) is to provide Central Government employees with a low-cost insurance cover to help their families in case of death while in service, and a lump sum payment to them on cessation of their employment (retirement, etc.).

2. Who is eligible to join the CGEGIS?
All Central Government employees are eligible to join the CGEGIS.

3. Is membership in CGEGIS compulsory or optional for eligible employees?
Membership in CGEGIS (Para 1) is compulsory for all Central Government employees.

4. What are the two main components of the monthly contribution made by a subscriber to CGEGIS?
The monthly contribution made by a subscriber to CGEGIS has two main components: a share towards the Insurance Fund and a share towards the Savings Fund.

5. What is the general rate of monthly subscription for a Government servant in CGEGIS, and how does it vary by group?
