Clarification on Overtime Allowance for Acting Postmasters
136. Is an Assistant Postmaster (APM) eligible for Overtime Allowance (OTA) at the rate of 45 minutes per day when required to act as a Postmaster (HSG) in a Head Post Office during the regular Postmaster's short-term leave, specifically in cases where the APM is not entitled to officiating pay, is not provided with government quarters, and performs operational split duties for 8 hours?
The Directorate vide its Order No: 8-63/83-PE-II dated 05.06.1985 has decided that the orders previously issued in letter No. 31-47/76-PE-II dated 02.12.1978 are applicable to Assistant Postmasters who officiate in non-gazetted posts under these circumstances. Consequently, the OTA rate of 45 minutes per day is admissible to such staff members. These orders take effect from the date of issue, June 5, 1985, and were finalized in consultation with Internal Finance (Postal).
