திரிகடுகம் என்பது பதினெண்கீழ்க்கணக்கு நூல்களுள் ஒன்றாகும்.

• திரிகடுகம் என்பது மூன்று மருந்துப் பொருட்களைக் குறிக்கும்.
• சுக்கு, மிளகு, திப்பிலி என்னும் மூலிகைகள் உடலுக்கு நன்மை செய்வது போல் இந்நூலில் ஒவ்வொரு பாட்டிலும் உள்ள மூன்று கருத்துக்கள் வாழ்விற்கு நன்மை செய்யும். ஆதலால் இந்நூல் திரிகடுகம் என்றுஅழைக்கப் படுகிறது

செய்கை அடங்குதல் திப்பியம் ஆம்; பொய் இன்றி
நெஞ்சம் அடங்குதல் வீடு ஆகும்; - இம் மூன்றும்

இந்த பழந்தமிழ் பாடல் மூன்று வகையான "அடங்குதல்" (கட்டுப்பாடு) பற்றி பேசுகிறது:
"வாயின் அடங்குதல் துப்புரவு ஆம்" - வாயை அடக்குதல் (பேச்சைக் கட்டுப்படுத்துதல்) தூய்மையாகும்
"மாசு அற்ற செய்கை அடங்குதல் திப்பியம் ஆம்" - குற்றமற்ற செயல்களில் கட்டுப்பாடு செல்வம் ஆகும்
"பொய் இன்றி நெஞ்சம் அடங்குதல் வீடு ஆகும்" - பொய்யில்லாமல் மனதை அடக்குதல் வீடுபேறு (மோட்சம்) ஆகும்
"இம் மூன்றும் வஞ்சத்தின் தீர்ந்த பொருள்" - இந்த மூன்று பண்புகளும் வஞ்சகம் இல்லாத உயர்ந்த நெறிகள் ஆகும்.
தீவழிச் செல்லாமலிருப்பதால் செல்வம் உண்டாகும். உடலின் செய்கை அடங்குதலால் மறுபிறப்பில் தெய்வப் பிறப்பு கிடைக்கும். பொய் இன்றி மனம் அடங்குதலால் முக்தி கிடைக்கும். இம்மூன்றும் வஞ்சத்தில் நீங்கிய பொருள்களாகும்.
This ancient Tamil poem speaks of three kinds of " அடங்குதல் " (self-control):
"Control of speech is purity" - Controlling one's speech is considered a form of purity. It emphasizes the importance of speaking truthfully and avoiding harsh or hurtful words.
"Control of actions without impurity is wealth" - Controlling one's actions and avoiding impure deeds is considered a form of wealth. This highlights the value of ethical conduct and living a righteous life.
"Control of the mind without falsehood is liberation" - Controlling one's mind and thoughts, and being free from falsehood, leads to liberation (moksha). This emphasizes the importance of mental purity and honesty.
"These three are valuable qualities free from deceit" - These three qualities are considered noble virtues that are free from any form of deceit or hypocrisy.
Avoiding the path of evil leads to wealth. Controlling bodily actions leads to divine birth in the next life. Controlling the mind without falsehood leads to liberation. These three are valuable qualities free from deceit.
