One Day, One Minute, One Rule -– 59
59. What clarifications were made regarding the designation and posts of Sorting Postmen in the order dated April 17, 2012?
The order, dated April 17, 2012, with the number No. 25-20/2008-PE-I, provided clarifications regarding the designation and posts of Sorting Postmen. This was in response to reports that the posts were being abolished or redeployed, despite a previous letter not mentioning any such action.
The order reiterated the following points:
• The designation of erstwhile sorting postmen may not be changed until further orders.
• Any posts of sorting postmen that were abolished or redeployed must be immediately restored.
• The concerned divisional head should assess the exact requirement of postmen for Beat Sorting based on delivery workload and existing norms.
• All postmen should be assigned Beat Sorting work on a turn-by-turn basis, while observing existing norms.
• Postmen deployed for Beat Sorting must complete the work one hour before their leave time to allow for necessary documentation and procedures.
This was the greatest achievement of the Postal JCA in the negotiations. More than 5000 sorting postmen posts abolished were revived.
