One Day, One Minute, One Rule --- 3

3. Based on GFR Rule 257, what are the requirements for maintaining a government employee's Service Book?

According to GFR Rule 257, a government employee's Service Book must be maintained in duplicate. The first copy is retained and maintained by the Head of the Office, while the second copy is given to the government servant for safekeeping. Existing employees were to be given their copy within six months of the rules becoming effective, and new appointees within one month of their appointment. Annually, in January, the government servant must submit their copy of the Service Book to the office for updating. The office is then required to update and return it to the employee within thirty days. The Head of Office is also responsible for verifying the Service Books every year and recording a certificate to confirm that the services of the government servants are correctly recorded. If a government servant loses their copy, it can be replaced upon payment of a fee of Rs. 500.
