Posting of Items

Letter Boxes: Letters, letter cards, aerogrammes, postcards, airmail postcards, book post, small packets, printed papers, and literature for the blind can be posted in letter boxes if postage is fully prepaid. Registered newspaper items, periodical post items, and franked items should not be posted in letter boxes; if they are, they will be treated as unpaid. Accountable items should also not be posted in letter boxes.

Post Office Counter: All accountable items must be presented at the post office counter for transmission.

Franchisee Outlet
: Items specified by administrative instructions may be presented through franchisee outlets.

Self-Booking Kiosk: Available at designated post offices for Speed Post documents, registered articles, and parcels. Regional Head authorizes these post offices.

Web or Mobile Application:
The authorized web portal or mobile application may be used for posting items as specified by administrative instructions. "Click N Book," a web-based online service on the official India Post Website, allows customers to book Speed Post (Documents) and Registered items online. Booking of prohibited items is strictly not permitted.

A receipt is given to the person presenting an accountable item for transmission.

Ownership of Items
For domestic items, ownership remains with the sender until delivered to the rightful addressee, unless seized under applicable law.
For international items, ownership remains with the sender until delivered to the rightful addressee, unless seized under the law of the country of origin, transit, or destination.
Prohibitions

The following items are prohibited: 
o Any explosive, dangerous, filthy, noxious, or deleterious substance.
o Any sharp instrument not properly protected.
o Any living creature that is noxious or likely to injure items in transmission or Post Office officers.
o Anything likely to injure any item during transmission or any Post Office officer.
o Any ticket, proposal, advertisement, or matter relating to a lottery, unless organized or authorized by the Central or State Government.
o Any indecent, immoral, or obscene printing, painting, photograph, lithograph, engraving, book, card, digital media, or other item.
o Any item with words, marks, or designs of an indecent, obscene, seditious, scurrilous, threatening, or grossly offensive character on it or its cover.
o Any item with matter prejudicial to law and order on it or its cover.
o Any item with a pictorial representation of a proclaimed offender or someone convicted of an offense under applicable law.
o Any item with anything written, printed, or attached to its address side that might be mistaken for postage stamps, is too close to a stamp, or hinders easy reading of the address.
o Narcotics and psychotropic substances as defined by the International Narcotics Control Board, or other illicit drugs prohibited in the destination/origin country or by authorized agencies.
o Counterfeit and pirated items.
o Anything that, by nature or packing, may endanger officials or the public, or soil/damage other items, postal equipment, or third-party property.
o Dangerous goods, narcotics, and similar items.
