(Directorate OM no.19-19/2024-GDS dtd 25.02.2025)
Yes, dependent family members of regularly engaged
GDS/departmental employees are eligible for GDS engagement on compassionate grounds.
Compassionate engagement is applicable in the following scenarios:
• If the GDS or departmental employee passes away while in service or has been missing for over two years.
• If the GDS or departmental employee must permanently leave service due to a contagious disease or a physical/mental infirmity, provided they are discharged on medical grounds before reaching 62 years of age.
Conditions for Compassionate Engagement:
• Compassionate engagement is not a right and is subject to fulfilling all conditions, including the availability of vacancies.
• Only one eligible dependent of the deceased GDS/departmental employee is entitled to compassionate engagement as a GDS.
• In the case of a departmental employee, the same eligible dependent may apply for compassionate engagement for both departmental and GDS vacancies. If selected for both, the candidate must choose one position and resign from the other.
• A new paragraph (14-A) has been added to cover cases where a GDS is allowed to quit permanently due to a contagious disease or bodily/mental infirmity. This provision allows for compassionate engagement under the same conditions as mentioned above.
