• ஆசாரம் என்பது ஒழுக்கம் அல்லது நடத்தை. பெரியோர்கள் வாழ்ந்த வாழ்க்கை நெறியை பின்பற்றி ஒழுகுதல் ஒழுக்கம் ஆகும்.
• ஆசாரக்கோவை. திருக்குறள் போல பதினெண்கீழ்க்கணக்கு நூல்களுள் இதுவும் ஒன்று.
• இந்நூலை இயற்றியவர் பெருவாயில் முள்ளியார் எனும் புலவர்.
பாடல் 51 : உடற்பொலிவு கெடுப்பன
மின்னொளியும் வீழ்மீனும் வேசையர்கள் கோலமும்
தம்மொளி வேண்டுவார் நோக்கார். பகற்கிழவோன்
முன்னொளியும் பின்னொளியும் அற்று.
நிலையற்ற வெளித்தோற்றங்கள், கணநேரப் பிரகாசங்கள், செயற்கையான அழகுகள் ஆகியவற்றை நாடாமல், தன்னுள் இருக்கும் நிலையான உண்மையையும், நிரந்தர ஒளியையும் தேடுபவனே ஞானி ஆவான். முழுமையான உண்மைக்குத் துவக்கமோ முடிவோ இல்லை; அது எப்போதும் தன்னிலையில் முழுமையாக இருக்கும்.
தன்னுடல் பொலிவோடு இருக்க விரும்புபவர், மின்னல் ஒளியையும் எரி நட்சத்திரத்தையும் விலைமகளிர் அலங்காரத்தையும் (இன்று நடிகையர் படத்தையும்) சூரியனின் தோற்றத்தையும் மறைவையும் பார்த்தல் கூடாது.
• மின்னொளியும் வீழ்மீனும்: மின்னல் வெளிச்சமும், வானில் இருந்து விழும் விண்மீன்களும் (எரிநட்சத்திரங்களும்) நிலைத்தன்மை அற்றவை. அவை கணநேர பிரகாசத்தை மட்டுமே தருபவை.
• வேசையர்கள் கோலமும்: வேசையரின் வெளித்தோற்ற அழகும் அப்படித்தான். அதுவும் நிலையற்றது, போலியானது.
• தம்மொளி வேண்டுவார் நோக்கார்: தங்களுக்குள் இருக்கும் உண்மையான ஒளியையும், நிலைத்த உண்மையையும் தேடுபவர்கள் இந்த நிலையற்ற, வெளிப்படையான கவர்ச்சிகளை நாடிப் பார்க்க மாட்டார்கள்.
• பகற்கிழவோன் முன்னொளியும் பின்னொளியும் அற்று: இங்கு பகற்கிழவோன் என்பது சூரியனைக் குறிக்கும். சூரியன் காலையில் உதிக்கும்போதும், மாலையில் மறையும்போதும், அதன் ஒளி முழுமையாகப் பிரகாசிப்பதில்லை. அதாவது, உண்மையான ஒளி அல்லது உண்மை என்பது ஆரம்பத்திலும் முடிவிலும் குறைவதில்லை. அது எப்போதும் முழுமையாகவே இருக்கும்.

Instead, they seek the permanent truth and the enduring light within themselves. True reality or ultimate truth is ever-present and complete, unaffected by beginnings or endings.
