Administrative setup
The Department functions under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India. The head of the department is Secretary, Department of Posts who is also the Chairman, Postal Services Board. There will be a Director General, Department of Posts with specific functions entrusted to him. The Postal Services Board consists of 6 members. Also, there is post of Additional Director General (Coordination) and Joint Secretary & Financial Advisor, whose role have been clearly identified. The organization setup at the Directorate is in the chart below.
Each member is assisted by DDGs and other staff in the day-to-day functions. The Administrative setup from the Directorate down to Post offices is shown in the chart below:
o The Department is territorially divided into 23 circles, each encompassing one or more than one state and/or a union territory. A Circle is headed by Chief Postmaster General. The circle is divided into Regions each headed by a Postmaster General. Regions are further classified into divisions headed by Superintendent or Senior Superintendent. Divisions can be under the jurisdiction of PMG or CPMG.
o Divisions are classified as Postal or RMS divisions. Postal divisions are in charge of the Postal operations in their jurisdiction whereas the RMS Divisions manage the mail processing. The Postal/RMS Divisions are divided into subdivisions incharge of Inspector or Assistant Superintendent. Each regional headquarters has a Postal Stores Depot., in charge of a superintendent, catering to the needs of forms and stationery of the PO/RMS offices in the region. Each circle has Circle Stamps Depot., in charge of a superintendent which supplies stamps and Postal stationeries to Head offices in the Circle. (Note: As per Dte. Letter No.12-6/2016-UPE dtd.25-08-2020, now there will be only Postal Stores Depot in each circle headquarters)

• இந்திய அரசின் தகவல் தொடர்பு அமைச்சகத்தின் கீழ் இந்தத் துறை செயல்படுகிறது. துறையின் தலைவர் தபால் துறை செயலாளர் ஆவார், அவர் தபால் சேவைகள் வாரியத்தின் தலைவராகவும் உள்ளார். குறிப்பிட்ட செயல்பாடுகள் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்ட தபால் துறையின் தலைமை இயக்குநர் ஒருவர் இருப்பார். தபால் சேவைகள் வாரியத்தில் 6 உறுப்பினர்கள் உள்ளனர். மேலும், கூடுதல் இயக்குநர் ஜெனரல் (ஒருங்கிணைப்பு) மற்றும் இணைச் செயலாளர் மற்றும் நிதி ஆலோசகர் ஆகிய பதவிகள் உள்ளன, அவர்களின் பங்கு தெளிவாக அடையாளம் காணப்பட்டுள்ளது. இயக்குனரகத்தில் உள்ள அமைப்பு அமைப்பு கீழே உள்ள வரைபடத்தில் உள்ளது.
• ஒவ்வொரு உறுப்பினரும் அன்றாட செயல்பாடுகளில் டிடிஜிக்கள் மற்றும் பிற ஊழியர்களால் உதவப்படுகிறார்கள். இயக்குனரகத்திலிருந்து அஞ்சல் அலுவலகங்கள் வரை நிர்வாக அமைப்பு கீழே உள்ள வரைபடத்தில் காட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது:
• இந்தத் துறை பிராந்திய ரீதியாக 23 வட்டங்களாகப் பிரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது, ஒவ்வொன்றும் ஒன்று அல்லது ஒன்றுக்கு மேற்பட்ட மாநிலங்கள் மற்றும்/அல்லது ஒரு யூனியன் பிரதேசத்தை உள்ளடக்கியது. ஒரு வட்டத்திற்கு தலைமை போஸ்ட்மாஸ்டர் ஜெனரல் தலைமை தாங்குகிறார். வட்டம் மண்டலங்களாகப் பிரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது, ஒவ்வொன்றிற்கும் போஸ்ட்மாஸ்டர் ஜெனரல் தலைமை தாங்குகிறார். மண்டலங்கள் சூப்பிரண்டு அல்லது மூத்த சூப்பிரண்டு தலைமையில் பிரிவுகளாக மேலும் வகைப்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன. பிரிவுகள் பிஎம்ஜி அல்லது சிபிஎம்ஜியின் அதிகார வரம்பிற்குள் இருக்கலாம்.
• பிரிவுகள் அஞ்சல் அல்லது ஆர்எம்எஸ் பிரிவுகளாக வகைப்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன. அஞ்சல் பிரிவுகள் அவற்றின் அதிகார வரம்பில் உள்ள அஞ்சல் செயல்பாடுகளுக்கு பொறுப்பாகும், அதே நேரத்தில் ஆர்எம்எஸ் பிரிவுகள் அஞ்சல் செயலாக்கத்தை நிர்வகிக்கின்றன. அஞ்சல்/ஆர்எம்எஸ் பிரிவுகள் இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் அல்லது உதவி சூப்பிரண்டு பொறுப்பில் துணைப்பிரிவுகளாக பிரிக்கப்படுகின்றன. ஒவ்வொரு மண்டல தலைமையகத்திலும் ஒரு அஞ்சல் ஸ்டோர்ஸ் டெப்போ உள்ளது, இது ஒரு சூப்பிரண்டு பொறுப்பில் உள்ளது, இது மண்டலத்தில் உள்ள பிஓ/ஆர்எம்எஸ் அலுவலகங்களின் படிவங்கள் மற்றும் எழுதுபொருட்களின் தேவைகளைப் பூர்த்தி செய்கிறது. ஒவ்வொரு வட்டத்திலும் வட்ட முத்திரைகள் டெப்போ உள்ளது, இது ஒரு சூப்பிரண்டு பொறுப்பில் உள்ளது, இது வட்டத்தில் உள்ள தலைமை அலுவலகங்களுக்கு முத்திரைகள் மற்றும் அஞ்சல் எழுதுபொருட்களை வழங்குகிறது.
